After years in the legal profession, I found myself searching for something I had slowly lost along the way: a deeper connection with myself, with others, and with the way I wanted to live my life.
What started as a personal journey toward a more intentional way of living eventually led me to Matcha. Not simply as a drink, but as a ritual. A moment to pause, be present, and reconnect in a world that constantly asks us to move faster.
The Japanese philosophy surrounding Matcha resonated deeply with me. The respect for craftsmanship, authenticity, and finding beauty in everyday moments reflected the values I wanted to bring back into my own life. What began as a personal ritual eventually inspired the creation of The Matcha Society.
Today, The Matcha Society is more than a destination to enjoy exceptional ceremonial Matcha sourced directly from family tea farms in Japan. It is an invitation to create space for presence, connection, and everyday rituals. Through every cup and bowl we serve, every product we curate, and every space we design, we hope to inspire a more mindful way of living.
When I opened our first small shop in Maastricht, my goal was never simply to sell Matcha. I wanted to create a place where people could feel at home. A place where the simple act of sharing a cup of Matcha could bring people together.
From the very beginning, I dreamed of building more than a store. I envisioned a society brought together through Matcha, craftsmanship, and a shared appreciation for life's intentional moments.
Today, that vision continues to grow. What started as a small handmade sanctuary for Matcha and connection in Maastricht has evolved into a growing community connected through Matcha. As we continue to open new spaces, our mission remains unchanged: to help people find beauty, presence, and connection in everyday life. We believe that every journey starts with an experience, and the experiences we return to often become the rituals that shape our lives.
